ABOUT ACTOR COACHING
In the PAGE to CAMERA studio, Susan Hamann provides one-on-one instruction for actors at all levels; guiding the actor to a truthful performance. The studio is equipped as a full service self-tape facility; therefore, sessions can be taped and played back for self-analysis by the actor.
SESSIONS
All sessions are uniquely tailored to meet the needs and goals of the individual actor. There is not one theory or process that fits all. Susan crafts her sessions in response to what the actor brings in the moment. Much like the art of acting itself, her sessions evolve organically with the actor in the room. Sessions are 1 hour in length and can be booked on an individual or monthly basis. For best results, it is highly recommended that students make a commitment for at least one month at the outset.
PHILOSOPHY

The question to be explored in the work is how to access this truth | Susan’s extensive training and work as an actor has led her to believe that actors must develop their own process for accessing a truthful, “non-acting” performance. To this end, Susan provides actors with a wide range of different techniques with which to explore and create a process that works for them.
One-on-one training is an important part of the actor’s development. With one-on-one coaching the actor is not able to hide in a two-hander scene, she/he is the centre of focus. Being the centre of focus can bring forth a host of underlying issues with nerves and tension - the same nerves and tension that can inhibit a good audition.
For this reason, all sessions begin with the introduction to a simple yet highly effective relaxation/warm-up exercise.
*Video playback of on-camera performances are observed and analyzed in session. Actors are also emailed a link to download their video for home viewing.
